Elementary Student Artwork Wins District 21

Wylie Smith's art work has been selected for the 2017 Senate Art Exhibit. There is only one winner per Senate District, a total of 34 winners. Odessa is part of District 21 which includes Blue Springs, Lee's Summit, Kansas City, etc.  Wylie is one of the youngest participants selected.

2nd grade artwork was submitted in March 2016 by McQuerry Elementary art teacher Herb  Schell.  Wylie Smith who is now a 3rd grader at Odessa Upper Elementary has been selected as the winner of District 21.  There are 100's of schools across the state that submitted student work.  Only two pieces per school are allowed.  Mr. Schell has submitted student works to this event the past three years. A McQuerry student has been selected as a winner each year.  Mr. Schell stated, "Wylie Smith is a wonderful artist with great potential and I hope she continues to grow and excel."

The winning artists will be recognized along with YAM (Youth Art Month) winners at an Awards Ceremony on 
Thursday March 16th , in Jefferson City. Winners will be posted to the  MAEA (Missouri Art Education Association) website and recognized in the Show Me Arts Magazine. Their work will be displayed at the state capitol throughout 2017. This show is available to the public and can be viewed anytime during the Capitol's normal hours.
