Dual Credit Information
Dual credit courses allow OHS students to simultaneously earn both high school credit and college credit. This gives students the opportunity to take college-level courses at a more affordable price. There is a per credit hour fee for each course that is set by the college/university awarding credit. These prices can range from $75-100/hour with most courses being worth 3 credit hours and are payable by the student. Since some students will take more than one dual credit course, most colleges offer payment plans. Students must have a 3.0 GPA minimum and meet the eligibility requirements for each individual course.
These college-level courses are available to OHS students two different ways: direct teaching and ITV. Some OHS faculty are approved by different colleges/universities to teach dual credit courses in the classroom. We also utilize our ITV lab which allows students to receive instruction from actual college campuses or other high schools using technology. A potential third option for students is to take an online course through a college that allows dual enrollment. Please see the description for College Release in the OHS Career & Educational Planning Guide for details. These students have to really be organized and motivated since the instruction and communication is done online.
