LATE START IMPLEMENTATION

Odessa R-VII Families:

As previously communicated, the survey responses in favor of implementing a late start were overwhelming, at around 83% in favor of the idea.  The most recent email also speculated that there would likely not be a change until the 2020-21 school year.  However, there continues to be a number of school days that could be in session if a two-hour late start was in place.  That being said, this will be an official possibility starting February 3 After that date, there could be a cancellation of school or a late start.  We hope that having this information ahead of time will allow families to make any necessary plans for children on these days.

A late start will mean that everything is simply pushed back TWO HOURS later than normal.  The only exceptions to the 2-hour delay are SOAR which will open at 7:00 and the Childcare Center, which will open at 8:00.   Breakfast will not be served on late start days, except for the students at SOAR. More detailed information about class schedules at OHS & OMS will be communicated to those students.

As an example, if your child rides a bus and is picked up at 6:45, they will be picked up at 8:45 on a late start day...... If the building doors usually open at 7:30, they will open at 9:30...... If the start time is usually 7:50, it will be 9:50 on a late start day..... and so on.

Again, a late start could be possible beginning February 3The two hour late start only impacts the morning routine, school will dismiss at the regular dismissal time.

Thank you!
