Fall Sports Restrictions

Odessa Families,

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the Odessa Administration has developed the following restrictions as an effort to prolong the fall sports season and to keep students, coaches, staff, and fans safe at our sporting and activity events.

All spectators will be required to adhere to social distancing and mask requirements set by the county at all games and contests.  Areas of the bleachers and stadium seats will be marked off to allow for social distancing.  Teams will need to screen their athletes prior to arriving at our facilities.  If anyone shows any signs/symptoms they will need to stay home.

The Activities Department will have a streaming option for as many games as possible.  Internet access may limit if a game is live or tape delayed.  We will make every effort to live stream all games.  More instruction on how to watch games on your device will be sent out.

Odessa Activities and KMZU Sports have teamed up to develop a partnership that will start with live streaming all Varsity football games and some volleyball, soccer and softball games this season.  These games can be found by accessing this link: http://www.midvid.com/odessa-high-school/

Acknowledgment of Infection Risks: The risk of coronavirus transmission will still be present to some degree as school activities begin in August and possibly through the 2020-2021 school year.  Students and their families, along with school personnel must recognize these risks and implement best practices to reasonably mitigate these risks. Participation in school activities is voluntary and every individual will need to evaluate the risk versus the benefits of activity participation.  Those immunocompromised students and staff, or those who live with family members with elevated health concerns, should evaluate associated risks of participation and may choose not to participate. The primary means of coronavirus transmission is through respiratory droplets and potentially aerosolized. Risk mitigation strategies should be aimed at reducing the likelihood of a person’s respiratory droplets coming into contact with another person.  Every school is different and every activity is different. Certain mitigation strategies may be feasible in one school or for one activity, but not another.

Concessions will be available at this time, but it will be limited.  It will consist of pre-packaged items like candy, chips, soda, etc.

For away contests, each location Odessa teams play may have different regulations regarding fan attendance and Covid-19 prevention measures.  These expectations will be distributed as soon as possible.

Please see the attachment for details for each specific sport.
